The opening is only the beginning
Width and height help start a conversation, but an installation also depends on the available space above, beside and behind the opening. Tracks, springs and operator placement need room. Treat your first measurements as planning information until the opening is checked for the selected product.
Show the obstructions
Photographs can help identify low ceilings, beams, shelving, lighting, pipes or other items near the door path. Mention a sloped ceiling or an unusual opening. Do not move structural framing or electrical equipment as part of preparing a quote request.
Explain what will change
Replacing an existing door differs from creating or enlarging an opening. Tell us if the project includes framing, siding, electrical work or another contractor. Ask the relevant local building office about requirements for the actual project rather than assuming every replacement has the same scope.
Prepare for final confirmation
Bring approximate opening dimensions, full-opening photos and any existing door label. Discuss insulation, windows, appearance and whether the opener should also be evaluated. Final measurements, product specifications and availability are confirmed before installation is planned.
Read the equipment guidance
Use the instructions for your exact equipment. The Chamberlain Group manuals and parts library and Clopay care and maintenance manuals provide manufacturer context. These links are reference material, not a claim of a dealer relationship.
