Record what happens during one attempt
A hum, click or running motor does not establish which part has failed. Note whether the door moves at all, whether lights flash and whether the sound comes from the operator or the door assembly. Avoid repeated attempts when the door is stuck or the motor appears to strain.
Look at the door from a safe position
A separated spring, displaced cable or crooked section changes the diagnosis. Keep clear of the opening and do not force the door with the operator. The motor may be responding to a problem elsewhere in the system, so an opener-only parts purchase can miss the original cause.
Controls and drive components need different checks
Tell us whether the wall control behaves differently from the remote. If you can read the model label safely from the floor, have it ready. Model-specific drive, electrical and control problems should be assessed using the correct equipment information, rather than a repair video for a similar-looking unit.
Plan repair or replacement
An assessment can help separate an operator fault from a door problem and compare repair with replacement where relevant. Describe the equipment age only if you know it, any recent power event and the exact symptom. We provide opener repair and installation as well as door service.
Read the equipment guidance
Use the instructions for your exact equipment. The Chamberlain Group manuals and parts library and Clopay care and maintenance manuals provide manufacturer context. These links are reference material, not a claim of a dealer relationship.
